Mr. Charles Paul Lucas, 69 of Poca peacefully answered the call to come home on March 7, 2010.  “D-Paw” has relinquished the darkness of all winters to bask in the warmness of an everlasting spring alongside his savior.  Charles’ parents, Paul S. and Kathleen M. Lucas, brother Wyatt “Pude”, his great granddaughter, Angela Lucas and other family members were celebrating his arrival to his eternal home, they had so ornately prepared for him.
Charles took pleasure in sharing 47 glorious years with his cherished wife, Linda (Adkins) by his side.  D-Paw and D-Maw were constantly together whether on the road travelling, at the ball field, church or their after-church hangout of McDonald’s.  During 35 of those years, Charles left Linda’s side to work at the DuPont Plant in Belle.
Charles left an enduring legacy for his two sons to follow.  Chuck of Tampa, Florida and Randy of Poca.  Linda will share many fond memories of visits with Chuck and his wife Tina and their sons Corey and Brandon also of Tampa.  She will also share many tender memories, especially of evenings spent at the ball field or a dance recital, with Randy, his wife Roni and their daughters Cassie (Derek) Latimer and Morgan.  As D-Paw has been reborn, Cassie and Derek eagerly await the birth of their first child, D-Paw’s first great grandson.  D-Paw also leaves behind many “adopted” nieces, nephews and grandchildren in the Poca area.
A lifetime of amusing stories and cherished memories reverberate in the hills around Rand and Georges Creek of Charles Paul with his beloved sisters Joyce (Hubert) Bass of Charleston and Drema Kay Jarrell of Valparaiso, Indiana and his brothers, William (Sue) and Eddie (Louise) and sister-in-law Juanita all of Charleston, They shall eagerly reminiscence about their loving memories of their brother.  Uncle Charles’ many nieces and nephews have affectionate tales of his benevolent ways as they grew up with their beloved uncle.
The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to their church family at Bancroft Church of God Mission for the fervent devotion, countless prayers and friendship in helping them through the dark times of Charles’ battle with sickness over the last year.  Charles, Linda and family attended the church along the road in Bancroft.
A tribute to the life of Mr. Charles Paul Lucas will be 2:00 PM Thursday March 11, 2010 at Bancroft Church of God Mission with the Reverend Earl Cochran and Elder Frank Allen Jr. Entombment will follow in Haven of Rest Memory Gardens, Red House.  Extended family and friends are invited to celebrate Charles’ earthly life with his family on Wednesday at the church from 6 pm to 8 pm.
